UST
Service Adventure #6: Coffee Shop Wars
9:31 PM
As a student at a university, one alternative to studying at
a library would be studying at cafes. Aside from allowing people to eat, cafes provide a relaxing ambiance and comfortable seats. There are different establishments around
UST that offers to satisfy your next caffeine fix but there are only 3 major
establishment names who offer an area to customers to stay at and enjoy their coffee
and maybe study.
1.
Starbucks Coffee
There are 3 Starbucks Coffee branches
around UST, one would be at Pacific Suites in Dapitan, another will be at
ITower in P.Noval and the latest addition would be the one at car park.
Starbucks Coffee is already an established franchise and is present everywhere
in the world. Out of the three branches present around school, only 1 offers
free wifi. Still, every cup bought is delicious and can be adjusted to your liking.
My Review:
I am personally a fan of Starbucks because
it upholds its quality standards. Every cup of coffee is consistent and the
baristas are nice. They still can’t spell my name right though.
2. Café Kivhan
Café Kivhan is a coffee shop located just across
UST’s P.Noval gate. Besides the usual coffee/tea, café kivhan also offers
different Korean-inspired desserts.
My Review:
We came across café kivhan in search for a
place to do our IMC paper. Since we’re already in the area, we’ve decided to
try it. I was sort of disappointed because their coffee tasted like sugar
water. It was also a bit pricier than the usual and they don’t have wifi, which
is what we’re looking for that time.
3. Café UK
Popular to students who loves to pull off
all-nighters, Café UK has established its reputation, not only to Thomasians,
but also to students of neighboring universities. It is a coffee shop that’s
open 24 hours a day.
My Review:
Café UK’s coffee is good but also a bit
pricey, although the free wifi and unlimited use of the place made up for it.
One con would be how the staff accommodates the customers though – They require
them to order first before having them seated. Still, my personal fondness of their nachos took me away.
At the end of the day, it all downs upon the person's preferences and on the situation (e,g. availability of seats, customer's budget, etc.) We all have our personal favorites, some of mine are quite obvious in this post. Nevertheless, it is good to know that these establishments are here to provide quality service to the Thomasian Community.
